LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Comedian Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, attempted suicide on Sept. 18, just days after a court declaration accused him of sexually exploiting a then-19-year-old man in Florida. Police records later indicated Thompson learned that reporting about the allegations was coming out roughly an hour before the attempt.

The allegations were made by Zachary Defazio, now 25, in a Sept. 14 declaration filed in connection with separate litigation involving singer Brian Evans. Defazio alleges he met Thompson through Grindr in 2021 when Defazio was 19 and Thompson was 56. He claims Thompson used a younger-looking anonymous photo before they met and later supplied him with alcohol despite Defazio being under 21. Defazio further alleges that Thompson engaged in nonconsensual sexual conduct with him in October 2021 while he was too intoxicated to consent.

Defazio had previously pursued a legal claim of his own against Thompson, and correspondence cited in the filing shows his former attorney proposed a $7.5 million confidential settlement in 2025. His attorney later withdrew from the matter. Defazio subsequently filed the declaration supporting Evans’ separate lawsuit.

Evans, a former opening act for Thompson, has separately alleged that Thompson sent him an unsolicited sexually explicit video and later persuaded him to sign a settlement agreement. Thompson’s legal team, however, has accused Evans of attempting to extort the comedian over sexually explicit material, including an alleged demand for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Evans has denied threatening to release the material in exchange for money.

According to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police report, Thompson’s manager told officers that he informed the comedian about an article concerning the sexual-misconduct allegations shortly before the Sept. 18 emergency. Police were called to Thompson’s home at approximately 4:21 p.m., where officers found him unconscious near his backyard pool but still breathing. He was hospitalized and has since been released and is recovering with family.

The allegations against Thompson have not been proven in court. The litigation remains ongoing, and the competing claims between Thompson and Evans are disputed.
