BROOKLYN — Jimmy Kimmel took aim at Pete Hegseth during Thursday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after the defense secretary made a controversial remark about who should be welcome in the Department of Defense, then introduced billionaire Palmer Luckey as part of a new group of leaders.

Kimmel’s monologue focused on Hegseth’s recent “State of the Force” address, during which the secretary said “no fatties, no tr–nies, no beardos, no weirdos” were welcome in the department.

“You know, he practiced that in the mirror all morning and still screwed it up,” Kimmel said. “I mean, imagine writing that out.”

Kimmel then turned to Hegseth’s announcement that 20% of the nation’s generals and admirals would be cut, saying the loss would supposedly be offset by a new group of leaders involved in an initiative called Project Meridian.

Editors of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” then played footage of Hegseth mentioning Elon Musk, Newt Gingrich and Palmer Luckey, giving Kimmel an opportunity to point out what he saw as an apparent contradiction.

“Wait a minute. He specifically said no fatties, no beardos, no weirdos,” Kimmel said. “I saw all three of those right there. Elon Musk, Newt Gingrich and Palmer Luckey. Who is Palmer Luckey?! I looked him up. This is from his Wikipedia page.”

The program then displayed a photograph of Luckey wearing a mullet, goatee and Hawaiian shirt.

“This is not even a real person,” Kimmel joked. “Pete Hegseth put Tommy Bahama in charge of our military. He hired a guy he met at a kayak rental shop to run [it].”

Kimmel also said he enjoyed watching the Trump administration introduce what he described as “a new character.”

“I don’t know if there’s a Mrs. Luckey, but I will assure you, she’s not,” he concluded.
