The “Game of Thrones” universe is heading to the big screen, with “Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest” scheduled to open June 6, 2029.

Owen Harris, who worked on “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” will direct the movie from a screenplay by Beau Willimon.

Details about the film’s story remain limited, but the project is reportedly focused on Aegon I, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty, and his conquest of Westeros centuries before the events of the original “Game of Thrones” series. Aegon I has never been portrayed on screen, and the actor who will play him has not been announced.

Aegon’s royal lineage eventually produced Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, along with numerous heirs, including several who also carried the name Aegon. The family has already served as the foundation for HBO’s two successful spinoff series, “House of the Dragon” and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdom.”

Based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling fantasy novels, “Game of Thrones” aired for eight seasons from 2011 through 2019 and collected numerous Emmy Awards.

Harris is an executive producer on HBO’s “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” and directed several episodes during its first season. His other directing work includes episodes of “Black Mirror,” the 2019 remake of “Twilight Zone” and “Brave New World,” starring Alden Ehrenreich. Willimon previously served as showrunner of Netflix’s “House of Cards” and worked as a writer on Disney+’s “Star Wars” series “Andor.”

Before “Aegon’s Conquest” reaches theaters, fans of the franchise will have other Westeros stories to follow. “House of the Dragon” is set to return for a fourth season, while “A Knight of the Seven Kingdom” has been renewed for Season 2.
