Los Angeles — Focus Features and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster have set May 7, 2027, as the release date for Curry Barker’s upcoming horror-comedy “Anything But Ghosts.” Focus Features holds worldwide rights to the film, while Universal Pictures International will oversee its international distribution.

Barker is directing the project and co-wrote the screenplay with Cooper Tomlinson, his “Obsession” star and longtime collaborator. The two also lead the cast, appearing alongside Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, Bryce Dallas Howard and Aaron Paul.

The film’s official logline states: “When a group of fame-seeking wannabe ‘ghosthunters’ find themselves in over their heads, things spiral wildly and terrifyingly out of control.”

Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Jason Blum, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath are producing the movie. Daniel Bekerman, Barker, Tomlinson and Ben Ross are executive producers. Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Spooky Pictures and Divide/Conquer are producing in association with Image Nation and That’s a Bad Idea.

Barker’s debut feature, “Obsession,” became one of the summer’s biggest box office stories. The supernatural horror film connected strongly with Gen Z moviegoers and earned $519 million worldwide on a budget of less than $1 million. Its earnings also increased by 39% in its second weekend, a performance that is rarely seen in the current box office environment.

“Obsession” also received strong critical attention, including early Oscar buzz for Inde Navarrette, who starred in the film with Michael Johnston, Megan Lawless and Tomlinson.

The movie centers on Bear (Johnston), a deeply lonely young man who uses a mysterious toy known as a “One Wish Willow” to make his crush, Nikki (Navarrette), fall in love with him. The wish takes a disastrous turn, bringing bloody consequences for Bear, Nikki and their friends.
