Los Angeles — Lindsay Lohan is teaming up again with Mean Girls director Mark Waters, 22 years after they first worked together on the 2004 comedy.

Lohan and Waters, who also directed her in Disney’s 2003 hit Freaky Friday, have officially reunited for Return to You, a new Netflix movie that will also feature Crazy Rich Asians breakout star Henry Golding.

Set in 2008, the film centers on Lohan as a “powerful but lonely attorney” who “mistakenly receives a very emotional DVD from a dying woman addressed to her husband.” Using only “the clues on the disc,” she begins a search to locate the woman’s husband.

Lohan will also serve as a producer on the project, making it her fourth film collaboration with Netflix in recent years. The movie comes amid her career resurgence, often dubbed the “Lohannaisance,” following Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish, and Our Little Secret, which were released between 2022 and 2024.

Lohan previously reunited with another Mean Girls cast member, Tim Meadows, in Our Little Secret, the holiday movie she also produced for Netflix.

Her recent film work has expanded considerably since her return to the spotlight with Falling for Christmas in 2022.

Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis also reprised their roles in the Freaky Friday universe for last year’s well-received sequel, Freakier Friday. Nisha Ganatra directed the sequel, taking over from Waters, who directed the original film.

In a 2025 Entertainment Weekly cover story, Lohan attributed her renewed career momentum largely to “manifestation.” She recalled wanting to work with Netflix and Disney again during the COVID period.

“I had this thing in my head during COVID, I was like, ‘I want to work with Netflix and do a couple movies, but I want to work with Disney again, too,’” Lohan said. “It came to fruition because I believed it. Those things are meant to happen. I love my life, and I’m grateful for these moments I have.”

Her upcoming projects also include a lead role in Hulu’s thriller series Count My Lies.

Lohan is additionally developing a biopic about Hollywood actress, singer, and dancer Ann-Margret. Speaking about the project on Watch What Happens Live in November 2024, she said, “We’re working on the story. It’s exciting,” while describing the film as “pretty intense.” She added that “it has to be the way she wants it to be, so I really want it to be special in that way.”

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Return to You.
