Kyle Larson has done it again. The Hendrick Motorsports driver has added yet another win to his 2026 Cup Series campaign, but this one carries much deeper significance now that the championship fight is etching deeper into the chase. Larson asserted an undeniable dominance throughout the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway, the fourth race of the postseason, and once he had control of the front, there was no stopping him.
The HMS driver controlled much of the afternoon, leading 235 of 267 laps and holding off Austin Cindric by 0.565 seconds to clinch the win. This victory marks Larson’s second in the chase thus far and his fourth win at Kansas. The numbers tell a bigger story. Larson clinched two stage victories during the race and set the fastest lap at 30.076 seconds, earning all 76 points available to him. His 235 laps at the front of the field also proved to be one of his most dominant for all of 2026, earning him a new record.
Larson’s afternoon began like any other, but he had a clear early advantage over the rest of the field: speed. He led 78 of the first 80 laps and continued to control the race into the second stage, which ultimately gave him a wealth of bonus points. Austin Cindric eventually emerged as the closest car to Larson, but even after the Team Penske driver moved up from P11, he couldn’t catch the No.5.
The race’s final stage brought the rest of the field a much different challenge. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Chase Briscoe, who spent the afternoon trying to stay within striking distance of Larson, finally made a successful pass with 30 laps remaining. Briscoe led the next 23 laps, giving himself the opportunity to turn Larson’s dominant afternoon into a major championship result of his own. Larson, however, never let the gap grow too large.
He stayed well within striking distance, and with only 7 laps remaining, Larson made his move. He got underneath Briscoe and reclaimed the lead on lap 261, putting the No.5 in the perfect spot to finish what it started. Briscoe eventually fell back to P4 while Cindric challenged Larson and attempted to close the gap as the laps wound down, but failed. The final margin was barely over half a second.
But Larson controlled the race for 235 laps before that point. Between a combination of dominance and recovery, Kansas quickly became pivotal to Larson’s championship run. He entered the weekend only a single point shy of points leader Denny Hamlin, but by the time the race was over, that advantage grew to 26 points. Hamlin went on to finish in P3, with Christopher Bell taking home P6, and now sits 50 points behind Larson in the chase.
Joey Logano, who started on the pole, dropped to P4 in the standings, 67 points back, with Ryan Blaney at P5, 91 points behind. Kyle Larson’s win at Kansas Speedway also adds another milestone to his career. The win was the 34th of his Cup Series career, moving him past Bill Elliott and into 19th on NASCAR’s all-time wins list. More importantly, it gives the defending champion two wins in three races and four consecutive top-five finishes to open the Chase.
Though there are still 6 races remaining before the championship is decided, Larson leaves Kansas with something he didn’t have when the regular season ended: a points lead. The No. 5 team spent much of 2026 searching for its first win. What once seemed unlikely now feels entirely possible. Larson has captured half of the first four Chase races, and this victory further emphasizes the momentum he has built.
