San Sebastian — Oscar-winning French actor Marion Cotillard has discussed the growing use of artificial intelligence in acting while attending the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.
Cotillard said AI-generated performers currently remain unconvincing to her, but she also acknowledged concerns about a future in which artificial actors could become realistic enough to emotionally affect or deceive audiences.
The discussion came as Cotillard promotes her new film “7h40 ce jour-là,” directed by Nicole Garcia. The movie is competing for the festival’s top prize.
In the film, Cotillard plays Alice, a former revolutionary activist who is released after spending 20 years in prison and tries to rebuild her relationship with her son.
Cotillard won the Best Actress Oscar in 2008 for her portrayal of French singer Édith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.
The San Sebastian competition includes 17 films competing for its major awards, with the festival scheduled to conclude Saturday.
