London — Emma D’Arcy made a striking appearance at the London premiere of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s new film Digger, opting for an elaborate Valentino ensemble instead of a conventional gown or suit.

The House of the Dragon star wore a silky duster coat that caught the light and extended dramatically toward the floor. The pearlescent garment was styled with a red Valentino blouse and a Tiffany & Co. brooch created by 20th-century jewelry artist Jean Schlumberger.

D’Arcy attended the premiere with the Prince and Princess of Wales, using the ensemble to combine the formal structure of tailoring with the theatrical quality commonly associated with traditional red-carpet gowns.

Speaking to Vogue, D’Arcy described the appearance as having the feel of “’90s Hugh Grant.”

While D’Arcy’s version was designed for the red carpet, duster coats have more practical origins. The garments were initially created as protective outerwear, often using materials such as linen or canvas to protect clothing from mud, rain and dust during travel.

For D’Arcy, however, the Valentino coat served as the focal point of the entire look.

The ensemble also fits with D’Arcy’s established red-carpet style. The actor has regularly worn sharply tailored suits and has generally steered away from conventional dresses.

This time, the Valentino design combined characteristics of both styles. Its floor-length coat created the sweeping shape of formal eveningwear, while the trousers preserved the structure and practicality associated with tailoring.

The appearance comes as D’Arcy continues developing a prominent film career after their breakout performance as Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon.
