California — Police are investigating the death of model Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, as a suspected overdose.
Gerber died Sunday while at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California, according to information reported by CNN. His representative had previously confirmed his death.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office has not listed a cause of death.
The Santa Monica Police Department said officers responded to a location on Berkeley Street at 9:35 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a possible overdose. Police later identified Gerber as the person involved.
Gerber began his modeling career as a teenager, making his runway debut at 16. He later worked with several fashion labels while building a public profile separate from his well-known family.
Like his sister, model Kaia Gerber, Presley was part of a family with longstanding ties to the fashion world. Cindy Crawford was among the most recognizable models of the 1980s and 1990s. Rande Gerber is a businessman and hospitality entrepreneur.
Gerber had also spoken publicly about personal struggles involving mental health and drug use. In recent years, he used social media to share posts through a series called “Mental Health Mondays” and worked with charities focused on mental-health awareness.
His death follows a period in which he continued to maintain a presence in both the fashion industry and advocacy efforts.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced a final cause of death. The medical examiner’s findings are expected to help determine the circumstances surrounding Gerber’s death.
Crawford and Rande Gerber have asked for privacy as the family mourns.
Gerber was 27.
