McAllen — Netflix is preparing to launch a new version of “A Different World,” bringing the fictional Hillman College back to television more than three decades after the original series became a major part of pop culture.
The new series features a new cast and is designed to introduce the Hillman setting to a younger generation. The program was previewed ahead of its September 24 premiere, with CNN personalities discussing the challenge of continuing a show that became closely associated with college life and Black representation on television.
The original A Different World aired from 1987 to 1993 as a spinoff of The Cosby Show.
