WORCESTER – The Hanover Theatre Repertory’s (THT Rep) production of William Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet” is running Sept. 23 through Oct. 11 at the BrickBox Theater on Franklin Street.
In the Shakespearean classic, two young lovers meet and are immediately drawn to one another but as their love takes hold, the hope of their future is threatened by the reality of their warring families. Directed by THT Rep Artistic Director Livy Scanlon, the production stars Mathieu Myrick as Romeo alongside Alyssa Beaulieu as Juliet.
THT Rep’s production brings emerging and established artists to the stage for their take on “Romeo & Juliet,” an enduring tragedy of passion, conflict, and consequence. Myrick makes his THT Rep debut as Romeo. A 2026 MFA Theatre graduate of Brown University, Myrick’s credits include Trinity Repertory Company’s “Cold War Choir Practice” and “The Winter’s Tale” and Theatre Alaska’s “Pride and Prejudice,” to name just a few.
Beaulieu takes on her dream role as Juliet following her recent graduation from Syracuse University with a BFA in musical theatre. Originally from Londonderry, New Hampshire, she most recently appeared in the 89th season of The Lost Colony outdoor drama in the Outer Banks, North Carolina and her credits include “Push, Pull, Together, Apart” with Syracuse Stage, Cortland Repertory Theatre’s “Beauty and the Beast” production and more.
Bringing “Romeo & Juliet” to life is Scanlon, whose directing credits include “Doubt,” “The Crucible,” “The Glass Menagerie,” and many other productions. Her work has been recognized with an Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Director for “Dark Room” and an IRNE nomination for Best Director for Intimate Exchanges.
Scanlon also teaches theatre at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and has been recognized in Worcester Magazine’s Women to Watch and Worcester Business Journal’s Power 50.
“We have assembled an incredibly dynamic company of artists and creative team who bring so much energy, heart, and complexity to this story,” Scanlon shared. “Shakespeare’s characters can feel familiar, but this cast has found surprising new dimensions in them, making Romeo & Juliet feel visceral and alive.”
New this season, THT Rep has initiated special preview pricing and audience initiatives to augment the experience of attending a production. For all preview performances September 23-25, all tickets will be priced at $33. General admission for standard performances from opening night on Sept. 26 to the final show on Oct. 11 are priced $63.

Drag queen Sasha Velour
In other Hanover news, in celebration of Pride Worcester the theatre is welcoming drag icon and RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Sasha Velour to its main stage on Southbridge Street on Saturday, Sept. 26. Velour will take the stage with “Travesty,” a one-queen show that features music, comedy, and celebration of queer creativity by blending drag, performance art, history, and storytelling.
“Travesty” explores the secret queer history of a single location across time and through a series of jaw-dropping lip-sync performances, Velour brings to life characters and moments spanning generations, from a witch burning in a field, to a clown building a theater, to an underground gay bar rising against police persecution.
“Travesty” invites audiences to consider the queer stories that have been erased, forgotten, or pushed underground, while celebrating the resilience of the communities who continue to shape history.
“‘Travesty’ is ultimately a celebration of the people and places that have survived, transformed, and fought to be seen,” said Hanover Theatre & Conservatory for the Performing Arts President and CEO Alan Seiffert. “Bringing Sasha Velour to Worcester during our Pride celebration is a fitting way to honor the creativity, resilience, and history of the LGBTQ+ community while giving audiences an unforgettable night of theatre.”
The performance is part of The Hanover Theatre’s broader commitment to celebrating and supporting Worcester’s LGBTQ+ community during Pride Worcester. As part of its efforts, the theatre partnered with local leaders to further discussion and foster collaboration and hosted a table at Pride Worcester earlier this month, connecting with members of the community, sharing exciting updates about upcoming programming, and hosting giveaways for upcoming performances.
Tickets for these and other upcoming shows are on sale now at The Hanover Theatre box office, online at thehanovertheatre.org, or by calling 877-571-7469.
