Jimmy Fallon has apologized to employees of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” following a report detailing allegations about a difficult workplace environment at the NBC late-night program.

According to CNN, Fallon addressed staff members during a Zoom call after Rolling Stone published its investigation. He reportedly told employees that he had not meant to foster the type of workplace atmosphere described in the report.

Rolling Stone’s story featured accounts from 16 current and former employees who discussed problems they experienced at the show. The employees were not named because they were concerned about possible professional repercussions.

CNN said it had not independently confirmed the allegations made by the employees.

Fallon and the program did not comment on Rolling Stone’s initial report. NBC, meanwhile, released a statement saying that a respectful workplace remained a priority for the network and that employee concerns had been investigated and addressed when appropriate.

During the staff call, Fallon reportedly expressed regret over the situation.

In Rolling Stone’s account of the conversation, Fallon said he was embarrassed and apologized if he had caused embarrassment for employees, their families or their friends. He also said he wanted the show to be a fun and inclusive environment.

The allegations come as “The Tonight Show” continues its role as one of NBC’s flagship late-night programs.

Fallon has faced workplace-related controversy before. CNN’s report also referenced a 2020 incident involving a resurfaced “Saturday Night Live” sketch from 2000 in which Fallon impersonated Chris Rock while wearing blackface. Fallon apologized after the footage resurfaced and prompted criticism.

The current controversy, however, concerns allegations about the workplace behind “The Tonight Show” rather than material broadcast on camera.

NBC said it remained proud of “The Tonight Show” while acknowledging that employees had raised concerns over time.

Fallon’s reported apology came after Rolling Stone published its investigation and as coverage continued regarding the response from Fallon and showrunner Chris Miller. CNN said it contacted representatives for Fallon for comment.
