Dolly Parton is set to have a presence at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend, with NASCAR preparing to honor the Tennessee icon through a tribute that will be impossible to miss around the half-mile. The Bass Pro Shops Night Race weekend will feature Parton’s signature pink butterfly throughout the speedway, including on the race cars competing across NASCAR’s three national series.

For a track so closely connected to East Tennessee, the timing just seems natural and marries the world of stock car racing to one of the state’s most iconic names. Parton, who died Aug. 25 at 80 after a brief battle with cancer, grew up just shy of 100 miles from Bristol in the East Tennessee community of Sevierville. Now, just weeks after her death, the track is turning part of its biggest weekend of the year into an opportunity for fans and competitors alike to remember and honor like never before.

Bristol worked with the Dollywood Foundation to create the special butterfly mark, with “Dolly” placed across the center, and teams from the Cup Series, O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, and Craftsman Truck Series will have access to decals for their vehicles. However, this isn’t the first time Parton has crossed paths with NASCAR at Bristol.

The connection dates back to 2019, when Tyler Reddick arrived at the track with Parton’s image on his No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. The car adorned a pink-and-white design featuring her image, and Reddick embraced the theme away from the track as well, appearing in a blonde wig during the weekend. He finished second in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race, giving NASCAR fans something to remember at Bristol years before this tribute was ever thought of.

Yet, the 2026 tribute will look vastly different. Instead of a single car on the field honoring Dolly, the pink butterfly will be scattered throughout the speedway, from the walls surrounding the racing surface to the venue itself. A 15-by-7-foot banner will also be hung in the Fan Zone, giving fans the unique opportunity to write messages and sign their names.

Parton’s music will also be integrated into the weekend, allowing her voice to become part of the atmosphere as racing unfolds. The tribute comes during one of the busiest parts of the NASCAR schedule, the postseason. Bristol hosts championship competition in all three national series from Sept. 17-19, with the Truck Series Chase opening Thursday, the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series postseason continuing Friday, and the Cup Series taking over Saturday night for the 500-lap Bass Pro Shops Night Race.

The weekend arrives with the Cup Series postseason already underway, making Bristol another important stop for drivers trying to move through the championship battle. Even so, the pink butterfly will offer a different kind of moment once the engines fire. Bristol is built around noise, speed, and the intensity of short-track racing, but the tribute adds a quieter, more meaningful element to the weekend.

Parton’s influence went well beyond her music, and now her familiar symbol will appear on the same track where NASCAR has already created one memorable chapter with her name. This time, the butterfly will not belong to one driver or one car. It will belong to Bristol.
