It is a time for celebration, enrichment, and bringing cultural awareness and appreciation to the forefront. With Hispanic Heritage Month right around the corner, PBS KIDS on Prime Video is shining a spotlight on a collection of programming designed to underscore the significance of the annual observation while emphasizing education through engaging language-building content.

Honoring a Lasting Cultural Legacy

Hispanic Heritage Month is a period set aside to reflect upon and honor the immense impact of Hispanic and Latino culture. It is a time for expanding knowledge, demonstrating pride, and expressing appreciation for a community whose influence has long been woven into the fabric of American life. As the National Museum of the American Latino notes,

“The Latino presence in America spans centuries, predating Spain’s colonization of what is now part of the United States, and they have been an integral part of shaping our nation since the Revolutionary War.”

The contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans are not recent additions to the country’s story. They are enduring and embedded within the nation’s history, its communities, and its evolving identity.

The museum further notes that

The Latino population in the United States now exceeds 60 million people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Representing 18.9% of the nation’s total population, Latinos are the country’s largest racial or ethnic group.

A Shared Story of Culture and Community

The interweaving of cultures has long reinforced the idea of America as a melting pot, a land shaped by diverse populations pursuing a shared dream while bringing their own traditions, language, history, and artistry into the larger national story.

“Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the unique voices and experiences of Hispanic/Latino Americans and recognize their history, journeys, and achievements. Through these celebrations, we can all help to inspire younger generations and bring communities together.”

PBS KIDS on Prime Video is supporting that spirit of celebration by highlighting programs within its collection that can become part of family viewing throughout the month. The initiative invites children and parents alike to engage with bilingual storytelling while embracing the richness of the Spanish language.

According to the press release,

“From embarking on time-traveling dinosaur adventures in Dinosaur Train to learning valuable social-emotional skills with Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, the dedicated ‘En Español’ carousel on PBS KIDS on Prime Video offers families an engaging way to celebrate the month while supporting language learning and bilingual storytelling.”

The Spanish-language versions of beloved PBS KIDS series offer children an opportunity to build confidence, develop social skills, and explore imaginative new worlds, all while experiencing those stories in Spanish. It is a thoughtful way to make language learning feel natural, accessible, and connected to the joy of play, discovery, and family time.

Hispanic Heritage Month is officially observed from September 15 through October 15, creating 30 days to celebrate, reflect, and deepen an understanding of the cultural influences that have helped define the nation. It is a time to recognize activists, business owners, artists, educators, storytellers, and everyday citizens whose contributions continue to enrich the society we all share. Through programming that centers language, imagination, and representation, PBS KIDS on Prime Video offers families another way to celebrate while helping the next generation appreciate the many voices that make up America’s continuing story.
