Los Angeles — Jennifer Lawrence has officially entered Instagram, ending her long period of largely staying away from social media.

Lawrence went live Wednesday night under the handle @jlaw, after discovering that her preferred @jenniferlawrence username had already been claimed. In a video shared Thursday, she cautioned that she would abandon the platform if the comments turned negative.

In a text-based Instagram Story, Lawrence likewise asked followers not to leave mean or aggressive remarks. She joked that negative comments could even have an effect on the baby.

After roughly 24 hours on Instagram, Lawrence had attracted 1.5 million followers while following 46 accounts. Her following includes her husband, filmmakers and former co-stars, among them Josh Hutcherson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese.

Lawrence has spoken before about feeling uncomfortable with some of her older interviews becoming viral moments. Her Instagram debut, however, represents her first significant presence on a major social-media platform.
