Texas — Jimmy Kimmel interviewed Texas state representative and Senate candidate James Talarico on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday night, but viewers did not see the entire conversation on ABC. The full 21-minute interview was instead posted to YouTube.
Kimmel said the move followed what he characterized as pressure from the Federal Communications Commission related to political candidate interviews on his program. He explained that the discussion with Talarico would be made available online rather than aired in its entirety over the public airwaves.
Talarico spoke about his campaign for the Senate, his opponent Ken Paxton, President Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention during the interview.
The White House rejected Kimmel’s description of events. Assistant White House Press Secretary Davis Ingle said the FCC chairman had not threatened Kimmel or his program because of the interview and accused the host of presenting a false narrative.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” remains on ABC weeknights at 10:35 p.m. ET, while selected portions of the program are also made available on YouTube.
