Los Angeles — CBS Studios has asked a court to dismiss a lawsuit filed by former “Matlock” writer John Lowe, who alleged in June that he experienced a hostile work environment involving sexually explicit and discriminatory behavior.
CBS said it takes allegations of discrimination and harassment seriously but described Lowe’s claims as inaccurate and fabricated, according to TheWrap. The studio said it plans to contest the complaint while defending the producers associated with the show.
In his original lawsuit, Lowe alleged that he was terminated after reporting that a supervisor used a racial slur while discussing Juneteenth. CBS and the show’s producers dispute that version of events in court documents filed in response to the lawsuit.
Lowe also alleged that showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman and executive producers Nicki Renna and Jeffrey Lieber made stereotypical remarks concerning Black cast and crew members.
Lowe’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, previously stood by the allegations, saying his client had been subjected to degrading and unlawful treatment.
Lowe joined “Matlock” as an executive story editor in October 2023. CBS and the producers deny wrongdoing and are seeking to have the lawsuit dismissed under anti-SLAPP laws.
