The Cleveland Browns named its 53-man roster on Sunday. Deshaun Watson, Taylen Green, and Shedeur Sanders made the team. There were many Cleveland fans wondering where quarterback Dillon Gabriel was on that roster after he had a tremendous pre-season game over the weekend. Well, Gabriel was not cut and they decided to place him on injured reserve with a back injury.

This means that Gabriel is going to be out for the first four games of the 2026 NFL season. Many Browns fans believe that he will probably wind up on the roster at some point this season. Watson is probably going to find himself on the injured reserve list before the end of the 2026 NFL season anyways. Gabriel stared a few games last season for Cleveland. Gabriel played in 10 games last season for the Browns. He last started in a game on Thanksgiving weekend against the Baltimore Ravens before he was replaced by Sanders for the rest of the season because of injury. Gabriel completed 59.5% of his passes for 937 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. He is 25 years old.

There are a lot of Browns fans who are stunned about the fact that Gabriel landed on injured reserve to begin the 2026 NFL season. This is what Cleveland fans had to say about it:
Gabriel on IR! How convenient! #browns #dawgpound

Got rid of Dillion?! Smh

#FreeGabriel – Let him sign somewhere that isn’t a shitty franchise like the Browns stains.

If Gabriel is out for the whole season, this will not be good for the Browns. There is a chance that Cleveland could have Watson, Sanders, Gabriel, and Green all play this season. General manager Andrew Berry or somebody else will be drafting a quarterback for the Browns in 2027. There is a good chance that owner Jimmy Haslam will continue to make more moves once this season spirals out of control and this will not be the fault of head coach Todd Monken either.
