Police executed a search warrant Tuesday night at a Minneapolis apartment where the son of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., lives, recovering firearms and ammunition from the residence, according to multiple law enforcement sources cited by Alpha News.

Authorities also arrested a 22-year-old man identified as Abdulrahman Abdi, but Minneapolis police said the person taken into custody was not Omar’s son.

Abdi was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on a weapons charge.

“Multiple law enforcement sources say a search warrant was conducted Tuesday night on the apartment where Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s son lives in Minneapolis. Guns and ammunition were recovered from the scene,” Alpha News reported.

The Minneapolis Police Department confirmed an arrest had taken place at the location but distinguished the suspect from the congresswoman’s son.

“In response to our questions about what took place at the apartment, MPD confirmed another man, who is not the Congresswoman’s son, was arrested earlier in the day,” according to the report.

“Abdulrahman Abdi was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on a weapons charge.”

The information provided did not specify why investigators obtained the search warrant, what type or number of firearms were recovered, who owned the weapons or whether Omar’s son was present when officers searched the residence.

No allegation of criminal wrongdoing against Omar’s son was disclosed in the report.

The circumstances surrounding the raid and the connection, if any, between Abdi and the apartment were not detailed in the information provided.

Authorities had also not publicly disclosed what prompted the weapons charge against Abdi or whether additional charges or arrests were expected.

The available reporting therefore establishes that police searched a residence where Omar’s son lives and recovered guns and ammunition, while a separate man was arrested on a weapons charge. It does not establish that Omar’s son was arrested, charged or accused of possessing the seized firearms.
