The Ohio State Buckeyes enter the 2026 college football season being ranked number one in the AP Poll. Ohio State has a chance to be a very good team once again this season. They finished with a 12-2 record last season, but there is a chance that things could be very hard for them this season with the schedule.

Ohio State will be facing the Indiana Hoosiers and the Texas Longhorns on the road this season. The Buckeyes have a lot of talent that does return to the roster this season. Quarterback Julian Sayin will be under center for the second straight season and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith returns for a third straight season. There are also going to be questions about the defensive side of the football as well.

Chris Vannini of the Athletic ranked the 138 FBS teams as the 2026 college football season approaches. He thinks that Ohio State is the second-best team in the country. Vannini said,
“The Buckeyes will be in the mix as always with so much talent, but I have some questions about a defense that lost so much and an offense that struggled in the biggest games a year ago.”
Sayin was not good against Indiana in the BIG10 title game and also was not good against the Miami Hurricanes in the college football playoffs. Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs, Arvell Reese, and Kayden McDonald were all key pieces on the Buckeyes defense last season. They all were drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, and they will be big losses this season.
Head coach Ryan Day knows that this is not going to be easy at all for this football team like every single season. They also face the Michigan Wolverines, the Oregon Ducks, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the USC Trojans this season. Ohio State faces a loaded schedule. It is tougher than last season no doubt here.
