There were storms brewing in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday and another storm with Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith could be brewing soon for the upcoming 2026 college football season. Smith has been the best wide receiver on the Buckeyes for the last two seasons. He will be entering his junior season with Ohio State. Smith is the most NFL ready wide receiver prospect since Ja’Marr Chase of the LSU Tigers in the 2021 NFL Draft.

He is no doubt going to be a Top 5 selection in the 2027 NFL Draft. Smith is 6’3″ and weighs 223 lbs. During the 2025 season with Ohio State, he caught 87 passes for 1,243 yards receiving, and 12 touchdowns, along with averaging 14.3 yards per reception. Smith could no doubt be in for another big season for the Buckeyes.

Bruce Feldman of the Athletic wrote about the top freaks of college football entering the 2026 college football season. Feldman had Smith as the second freakiest player in the college football landscape entering the 2026 season. Well, he also believes that the Buckeyes star wide receiver is the top player in the nation. Feldman said,
“He’s the best player on this list and in the country. Last year’s top Freak, Smith won’t turn 21 until the day after the regular season ends. His 2,558 receiving yards and 27 TD receptions are the most by any Big Ten receiver in his first two years in college. Last year, he had 87 catches for 1,243 yards and 12 TDs despite everyone knowing he was going to be the focal point of the Buckeyes’ offense.
The 6-3 1/2-inch Smith is bigger than he was last year, weighing 224 pounds. His explosiveness for that size is reminiscent of another Freak WR from South Florida, Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Johnson. In a program stocked with high-level athletes, Smith — a super-sized wideout — ran a 1.44-second 10-yard sprint, fastest in the Buckeyes program.
Smith’s 11-foot broad jump, 38 1/2-inch vertical jump and 23.5 mph on the GPS are rare for a wideout this big. Even more eye-catching is the 6.84-second L-drill time he ran this offseason. Only one player at last year’s NFL combine, Alabama WR Germie Bernard (who is almost 20 pounds lighter), ran a quicker time.”
There will be a ton of NFL scouts keeping a close eye on him this upcoming college football season. Smith will not only be focused on winning games for Ohio State and putting up numbers, but it will be about staying healthy and getting ready for the NFL as well. He is going to be putting up big numbers for the Buckeyes week in and week out this season as well.
