The number of foreign-born workers in the United States declined over the past year, with the drop concentrated entirely among foreign-born men, according to the latest labor figures.

According to a Breitbart News report, the overall foreign-born population fell by 401,000 to 48.1 million. During the same period, the number of foreign-born people participating in the labor force declined by 550,000 to 31.5 million, while employment among foreign-born workers fell by 278,000 to approximately 30.5 million.

The decline was driven by foreign-born men. Their population fell by 819,000 to 22.8 million, while the number participating in the labor force dropped by 962,000 to 17.3 million. The labor-force participation rate among foreign-born men also declined, falling to 76.1% from 77.5%. Employment among foreign-born men decreased by 752,000 to 16.8 million.

Foreign-born women moved in the opposite direction during the same period. Their population increased by approximately 418,000, accompanied by a similar increase in labor-force participation. The number of foreign-born women holding jobs rose by 474,000.

The figures come as the Trump administration continues enforcing immigration laws and tightening restrictions on illegal entry, policies that have coincided with a smaller foreign-born male presence in the U.S. labor force.
