“We represent individuals in complex and sensitive criminal matters,” the firm’s website asserts.

The View co-host who apparently calls out others for their supposed privilege seems to be using some combination of the celebrity and legal cards to try to get her son off the hook for alleged trespassing.

Sunny Hostin reportedly made sure police know who she was after they stopped her son on June 16 for allegedly jogging alongside railroad tracks in Westchester County, New York.

Gabriel Hostin, 24, was due back in court on July 31 on the trespassing citation under New York Penal Code Section 140.05, but managed to obtain a postponement (or an adjournment or a continuance as it is generally referred to depending on the jurisdiction) to September 15.

Hiring a new lawyer possibly might have been the explanation for the routine assignment of a new court date.

Gabriel reportedly indeed has new legal counsel, and it turns out it is hardly a standard-issue criminal defense attorney, let alone a solo practitioner hanging out at the courthouse looking for clients, or someone who works as a public defender.

Instead, a high-powered criminal defense lawyer who represented music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is now in Gabriel Hostin’s corner on this comparatively mundane, if not “non-complex,” charge.

As highlighted by journalist Maureen Callahan on The Nerve podcast, this development in the case was reported by the Talk of the Sound news site:

“Westchester County District Attorney’s Office Director of Communications & Public Affairs Anna Young said…that Gabriel Hostin is now being represented by defense attorney Teny Geragos not his mother (court records still list Asuncion Cummings Hostin as the retained defense attorney).”

“Geragos is a founding partner at Agnifilo Intrater LLP and was a member of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ defense team in his federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial, in which the team secured not-guilty verdicts on the most serious charges that carried potential life sentences.”

The Agnifilo Intrater website declares that “We represent individuals in complex and sensitive criminal matters.”

Teny Geragos is also the daughter of prominent attorney Mark Geragos, who has handled various high-profile matter and who is or was a ubiquitous presence on television news programs and podcasts.

“Her father is Mark Geragos, a criminal defense attorney who gained fame representing clients including Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder, Scott Peterson, Hunter Biden, Colin Kaepernick, Mike Tyson, Jussie Smollett, Kesha and the Menendez brothers.”

As alluded to above, Sunny Hostin previously wrote to the local prosecutor that she was representing the defendant and seeking a dismissal of a violation “arising from an honest mistake.”

This suggests that the new lawyer has yet to file a written appearance or at least had not done so at the time the article was published.

The new court date is set for when Sunny Hostin would normally be in the NYC studio for the live The View broadcast — an ABC show which is essentially a redundant, group-therapy session for liberal studio panelists afflicted with Trump derangement syndrome.

Although a vocal critic of the current commander in chief, Sunny Hostin has not — yet — blamed President Donald Trump for the trespassing ticket, although there is still time.

“My mom’s a lawyer, by the way,” Gabriel told cops on the police bodycam video when he was initially detained.

Already on the phone with her son at the time, Sunny Hostin spoke with police before heading to the scene.

Although the audio gets choppy at that particular point, it seems that Sunny Hostin informed officers that she was a co-host on The View at about minute 3:20 in the footage, and as also reported by the New York Post.

She also mentioned that she was a former federal prosecutor, which she repeated after arriving on scene.

It does seem, however, that when cops first made contact with her by phone, Sunny Hostin sounded like she advised her son over the device at about minute 1:14,  to “tell them your mother is a federal prosecutor” present tense.

Hostin, who has an estimated net worth of $6 million, also made sure that cops on scene knew that her son was a Harvard graduate, as if that would be meaningful. She also added that her son “teaches 4th grade geometry to South Bronx kids.”

According to his LinkedIn page, Gabriel Hostin worked for the NYC Department of Education in the Bronx for just four months and, as of July 2026, is a self employed academic tutor.

Back on July 19 (well before an expensive new attorney reportedly got involved), PJ Media writer Matt Margolis opined the following:

“Sunny Hostin has built a nice little side career out of diagnosing other people’s privilege…the moment her own son needed a break, Hostin reached straight for the very cocktail of advantages she’s blasted others for using…”

The interaction between cops and the Hostin family was polite, but Gabriel’s mommy seemed quite disappointed when an officer told her that her son could not be let off with just a warning.

Hostin and the elder Geragos, moreover, have known each other for years, according to the Talk of the Sound report:

“Sunny Hostin and her husband Dr. Emmanuel Hostin retained Mark Geragos to fight a major federal RICO and insurance fraud lawsuit filed against her husband by the American Transit Insurance Company. The lawsuit was subsequently dropped with an apology from the insurance company.”

As an aside, Callahan has wondered whether there is possibly more to the story insofar as why Gabriel Hostin may have picked that particular location to go for a run.
