After the New York Yankees lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 13-7 on Monday night, they decided to demote shortstop Anthony Volpe to the minors once again. At 25 years old, he has been very disappointing for New York. Volpe this season has played in 56 games. He has a .240 batting average with one home run and 19 RBIs, along with seven stolen bases and four caught stolen bases. His on-base percentage was .325.

Because of this, they decided to promote shortstop George Lombard Jr. from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders in Triple-A. He also played for the Somerset Patriots in Double-A earlier in the minor league baseball season as well. Lombard is also a much better fielder than Volpe is.

Should’ve traded Volpe literally any time in the last 3 years when he still had value.
But whats new, Cashman loves hugging his shittiest prospects.

With Volpe being sent down to the minors and Lombard being called up, Yankees fans are hoping that this is a permanent move. It will be interesting to see how this is going to play out for New York in the long run. A lot of fans have been over the Volpe experiment and general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone probably also had enough of him as well.
