The Philadelphia Phillies have a 59-53 record so far this season and they have the same record as the Arizona Diamondbacks. They are fifth and sixth seeds in the National League at the moment. The San Diego Padres have a 58-54 record and are right behind them as well. Philadelphia needed to make a move in order to help fix some of the issues with the ballclub.

The Phillies traded with the San Francisco Giants to get second baseman Luis Arraez and right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian for right-handed pitcher Ramon Marquez (Philadelphia’s fourth best prospect) and right-handed pitcher Marty Gair. This is a great move for the Phillies to improve the lineup. Bryce Harper is going to go back to right field. Alex Bohm is going to first base, Bryson Stott is going to third base, and Arraez will be playing second base in the infield for Philadelphia.
Great Move for the Philadelphia Phillies

Arraez has played in 105 games for the Giants this season. He has a .324 batting average with four home runs and 43 RBIs, along with 10 stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .360. He is going to be the leadoff hitter for Philadelphia most likely in this lineup. It will be interesting to see how this will impact other players like Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Brandon Marsh, and others. His contact hitting will help because the Phillies have power bats in the lineup.
San Francisco has a 47-65 record this season and they are trying to rebuild their farm system. The Giants could be making more trades on Monday. Arraez is 29 years old. He will be a free agent at the end of the 2026 MLB season. It will be interesting to see if he will be back with Philadelphia or not after that because of the pending potential MLB lockout.
