FITCHBURG — City resident Jeff Nicholson has been in his own words pursuing photography for the last couple of years, dedicating countless hours to refining his craft and exploring the natural beauty of Central Massachusetts.
While wildlife — especially herons and other birds — has become a favorite subject, his passion extends to “capturing authentic moments wherever they happen, from community events and local landscapes to portraits and everyday life.”
“Photography is about preserving moments that might otherwise go unnoticed and telling stories through a single frame,” the 40-year-old said.

Nicholson has called Fitchburg home for two years and lives with his girlfriend Catey, a city native, and their blended family includes four kids. He recently captured a beautiful set of photos of a great blue heron and Canada geese at scenic Coggshall Park in his hometown, a project that took a lot of patience.
“I had to go to the park for weeks on end to get them flying or spreading their wings,” Nicholson shared. “I sat with the heron for an hour and a half one night. Park closed, got in my car and sure enough, he flew away after that.”
He launched his own photography business about six months ago, JN Photography, which is taking flight and can be followed on Facebook and Instagram.
