The Death God Ajiu
Buyeo was an ancient tribal kingdom that existed from the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD in what is now northeastern China, primarily across the Songnen Plain. It also served as one of the most important cultural and royal origins in the early history of the Korean Peninsula and the Korean people.
The royal families that later founded the kingdoms of Goguryeo and Baekje, both of which profoundly shaped Korean history, also traced their ancestry back to Buyeo.
At that time, Buyeo was a civilization where gods and humans coexisted. The deities lived among the local people in human form, except that they neither ate, drank, nor slept.
The gods were ageless and immortal, and the people regarded their presence as perfectly natural, living alongside them in harmony. There was only one exception—the Death Gods.
The people believed that the Death Gods were ominous beings because they guided human souls at the end of life. As a result, most people preferred to keep their distance from them.
