President Donald Trump pledged a major military response Wednesday after U.S. forces intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile attack targeting American personnel in Jordan, saying Tehran would face severe consequences for the attempted surprise assault.
“We’re going to beat the f—— s— out of them,” Trump told Fox News on Wednesday morning.
“We’ll be hitting them hard. They’re going to get a beating.”
Trump said American forces had only minutes to identify and respond to the incoming missiles but successfully destroyed them before they reached their intended targets. The president said he reviewed video of the interception showing U.S. personnel calling out coordinates in real time as the attack unfolded.
His remarks followed overnight military action by the United States and Saudi Arabia against Iran-backed Shiite militias operating in Iraq. Trump said the strikes were coordinated with the Iraqi government and were directed at groups connected to Tehran.
The president described the militias as a “cancer on the world” and said his administration was considering additional warnings and measures against Iranian proxy forces.
Trump’s comments signaled that the United States could expand its response beyond the strikes already carried out if Iran or its allied groups continue targeting American troops and regional partners. He did not provide specific details about the timing, scope or targets of any additional military operations under consideration.
The attempted missile attack and subsequent U.S.-Saudi strikes marked a sharp escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the president making clear that further attacks on American forces would not go unanswered.
