The Washington Commanders had a 2025 NFL season to forget after having much success in 2024. Quarterback Jayden Daniels only played in seven games last season for Washington. Daniels only completed 60.6% of his passes for 1,262 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. He rushed for 278 yards on 58 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

Daniels is only 25 years old; but there are people concerned about him being too injury prone. Daniels needs to be on the field healthy this season or there are going to be other major questions about the former number two overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft from the LSU Tigers.

Grant Gordon of NFL.com wrote about the three headlines about the Commanders entering the 2026 NFL season. One of them is about Daniels. Gordon said,

“Plenty on Daniels’ plate

There’s a lot to accomplish for Jayden Daniels this summer following a disastrous 2025 season. The Commanders sputtered, and the 2024 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year missed 10 games due to injuries, going just 2-5 in the games he played. How Daniels looks and feels after sustaining a sprained knee, strained hamstring and dislocated left elbow is tops on the agenda. He also needs to get acclimated to David Blough’s offense, which will see Daniels taking snaps under center far more now that his former assistant QB coach is his offensive coordinator after two seasons with Kliff Kingsbury in that role. Daniels is also in the latest season of Netflix’s Quarterback series. All eyes and a heap of responsibility will be on Daniels. How he bounces back — and how well he adapts to a new offense — could be the story of the Commanders’ season.

The Commanders backup quarterback for head coach Dan Quinn will be Marcus Mariota. Mariota is a reliable backup quarterback to have on Washington’s roster. David Blough is the new offensive coordinator the Commanders this season. Kliff Kingsbury was not brought back, and it will be interesting to see how Daniels will perform this season and hopefully stay on the field.
