Team Penske set the tone for Sunday night’s NASCAR Cup Series race at EchoPark Speedway by sweeping the front row in qualifying, a statement effort that reinforces the organization’s strength on intermediate‑style layouts this season. Ryan Blaney led the charge with a lap that put him at the top of the board, while Joey Logano followed close behind to secure second.
Blaney’s pole‑winning lap clocked in at 30.815 seconds, translating to 179.912 mph, giving him his first pole of the 2026 season and the eighth of his Cup Series career. Logano’s run was nearly identical, stopping the clock at 30.851 seconds and 179.702 mph, marking Penske’s third front‑row sweep of the year.
“Feels good to have a Penske front row,” Blaney said, noting how valuable it is to have a teammate beside him at the start. He also pointed to the broader Ford camp, which has earned four poles in the last six races and continues to show strength in qualifying trim. “Hopefully we’ll be able to get organized at some point, but it’s nice that Joey and I are starting at the front.”
Blaney enters the weekend third in the Cup Series standings, trailing only Denny Hamlin and Tyler Reddick. Hamlin, who leads the points with three wins and nine top‑fives this season, struggled in qualifying and will start 28th. Reddick, sitting second with one win and eight top‑tens, will roll off 31st. Both drivers pilot 23XI Racing Toyotas, a camp that has historically performed better in race trim than in single‑lap qualifying at drafting‑heavy speedways.
“They normally don’t qualify great at these speedways,” Blaney said, referencing Toyota’s pattern at tracks where aero balance and drafting lanes matter more than raw speed. He pointed to the spring race at EchoPark, where Toyota cars combined to lead 112 of 260 laps and placed three drivers inside the top five, including Hamlin’s runner‑up finish. “They can probably be aggressive in the draft. You look at the spring race here. The Toyotas were really good in the race,” he added.
Penske’s qualifying sweep adds another layer to a tightening championship picture. Blaney has produced seven top‑tens in the last nine races, while Logano has climbed back into form with four straight finishes inside the top twelve. Ford, meanwhile, has led over 500 laps this season, the manufacturer’s highest total through 20 races since 2020.
Sunday’s race now sets up a familiar dynamic: Penske with early control, Toyota lurking with race‑day strength, and the points battle tightening as the summer stretch continues. With Blaney and Logano starting side‑by‑side, Penske has an opportunity to dictate the opening laps, but the deeper‑starting Toyota camp has shown repeatedly that track position at EchoPark can flip quickly once the draft takes hold.
The front row is set. The numbers are shifting. And EchoPark Speedway is poised to deliver another chapter in a season where every lap carries weight. Two Fords will lead the field to green, but the real story will unfold further in the pack where the championship pressure sits heavy. By the time the sun drops and the draft tightens, every move will matter more than it has all year.
