The Democratic Socialists of America is preparing an updated policy platform that would call for eliminating the U.S. Senate and restructuring major parts of the federal government, according to a Fox News report.

Citing a source familiar with the organization’s planning, Fox News reported that the DSA plans to release the update next week as part of its long-term vision for U.S. policy. The proposed changes would include abolishing the Senate and replacing the president and the Supreme Court with an executive branch and judiciary chosen by Congress and subordinate to it.

The planned update also would include amnesty for all immigrants and defunding the Department of War, according to the report.

Those proposals would build on the DSA’s existing platform, which calls for an “immediate end to all deportations,” free migration between countries without restrictive immigration controls, and “extending full voting rights to people with criminal convictions and noncitizens.”

The platform update comes as DSA-backed candidates have won a series of elections against established Democratic officeholders. The organization, once viewed as part of the progressive wing of Democratic politics, has gained increased visibility as several endorsed candidates have defeated longtime party figures.

The DSA has endorsed members of Congress including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich. One of its most prominent members is New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a socialist and immigrant from Uganda who gained national attention after defeating former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2025.

Since Mamdani’s victory, other DSA-endorsed candidates have also won races. Melat Kiros of Colorado, Darializa Avila-Chevalier of New York, Adam Hamawy of New York and Donavan McKinney of Michigan each defeated sitting Democratic members of Congress in recent months.

The organization describes itself as a “working-class alternative to the Democratic Party.” Following a recent round of primary victories, the DSA said “only socialism can solve decades of capitalist mismanagement in the U.S.”

The group also said “our newly elected leaders will fight for the working class — not for crumbs.”

Beyond its proposed changes to the structure of the federal government, the DSA’s current platform includes a 32-hour workweek “with no reduction in pay or benefits,” Medicare for All, cancellation of all student loan debt, elimination of cash bail and universal rent control.

In its 2025–2026 program, the DSA calls for a “new democratic constitution” that it says would establish civil, political and democratic rights for all through proportional representation in a “single federal legislature.”

The expected platform update would expand that vision by formally calling for changes to the Senate, executive branch and judiciary, while also adding immigration and defense-related provisions.
