Vice President JD Vance and his family are considering purchasing an additional residence in an upscale rural town in Virginia, a move that would give the second family a private retreat while remaining within reach of Washington, D.C., according the News.
The property under consideration is located in a well-known Virginia community prized for its historic charm, spacious estates and quiet countryside. The area has become a popular destination for high-profile public officials, business executives and families seeking privacy without sacrificing convenient access to the nation’s capital.
The Vances currently reside at the vice president’s official residence at Number One Observatory Circle in Washington. An additional home in rural Virginia would provide extra space for family life while allowing Vice President Vance to continue carrying out his official duties in the capital. The family has recently attracted public attention for personal projects, including installing a custom-built chicken coop at the vice presidential residence, reflecting their interest in a more rural lifestyle.
No purchase has been finalized, and neither the White House nor representatives for the Vance family have publicly confirmed details of a prospective property or a timeline for any acquisition.
Public interest in the Vance family’s housing decisions has increased since JD Vance assumed office as vice president in January 2025. Like other senior government officials, the family must balance privacy, security and practical considerations when selecting personal residences outside official government housing.
If completed, the purchase would expand the Vance family’s real estate holdings in Virginia and provide another base close to Washington while offering a quieter setting away from the demands of public life.
