For over ten years, Breanna and Jakson believed that parenthood was a dream they might never get to realize. Navigating the deeply challenging realities of endometriosis and PCOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome), the couple spent a decade facing fertility struggles, slowly making peace with a future that looked different than they had initially planned. But life has a beautiful, unpredictable way of delivering miracles when we least expect them.
An Unexpected Discovery
In early 2026, severe and agonizing pain led Breanna to seek help from the gynecology department at Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH). Medical scans uncovered a daunting reality: a massive 16-centimeter cyst had developed on her right ovary. As the dedicated medical team prepped Breanna for surgery, a routine preoperative blood test delivered the shock of a lifetime. Against all odds, Breanna was pregnant!

A Delicate Lifesaving Surgery
The journey to welcoming their little one, however, was just beginning. By the time Breanna reached 22 weeks of pregnancy, the cyst had grown dangerously large, attaching itself to her uterus and bowel. Emergency surgery could no longer be postponed.
Under the expert and compassionate care of obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Ash, the GCUH team performed a highly delicate operation. They successfully removed the cyst and Breanna’s right ovary, all while keeping both the mother-to-be and her precious unborn baby completely safe.
Reflecting on that terrifying time, Breanna shared, "The wonderful team at GCUH made sure myself and my unborn baby were in fantastic hands."

A Heartwarming Reunion in the Delivery Room
As Breanna neared the end of her pregnancy, she faced another hurdle: a diagnosis of gestational diabetes, which led her medical team to recommend inducing labor. After an exhausting 12 hours with very little progression, doctors came in to discuss the next steps.
Then, in a truly heartwarming twist of fate, the door opened, and a familiar hero walked in.
Twenty weeks after performing the emergency surgery that saved the pregnancy, Dr. Ash was back—this time to help bring the baby into the world. Alongside a wonderful midwife named Phoebe, Dr. Ash and the GCUH team safely delivered baby Rhylen via C-section.
For Breanna, having her trusted doctor by her side for the birth was the ultimate comfort. "The continuity of care was unexpected but provided a sense of warmth and relief. We were so happy to see him again," she said.

Welcome to the World, Rhylen
Today, after 16 years of love together, a decade of profound uncertainty, a 16cm cyst, and a high-stakes emergency surgery, Breanna and Jakson are finally holding their miracle little boy.
Their incredible story is a radiant testament to resilience, the power of hope, and the life-changing impact of dedicated healthcare professionals. A massive congratulations to this beautiful family, and a special thank you to Dr. Ash, midwife Phoebe, and the entire team at Gold Coast University Hospital for guiding them through every step of this unforgettable journey!
