Iran issued a direct threat after President Donald Trump said the United States had struck part of Kharg Island and suggested additional action could follow as the U.S.-Iran ceasefire appeared to collapse.

Iran warned Wednesday that American troops would not return alive from any invasion of Kharg Island after President Donald Trump said the United States had already struck part of the strategic Iranian oil export hub and could target it again.
The warning came from Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, after Trump discussed the island during remarks at the NATO summit in Turkey.
Trump said the latest U.S. strikes hit part of Kharg Island, a key Iranian asset in the Persian Gulf, while avoiding oil infrastructure because the United States might later seek to take control of the island.
“We attacked Kharg Island last night, knocked out a piece,” Trump said.
“I said, ‘Don’t touch the oil, because maybe we’ll take over Kharg Island.’”
“I said, ‘Don’t hit the pipes, just hit everything else.’”
“And they hit it.”
“They may hit it again tonight.”
Trump also said the ceasefire with Iran appeared to be over after the latest exchange of attacks between the two countries.
Rezaei responded on X with a warning directed at U.S. forces.
“Come — we are waiting for you — and we promise that not a single American soldier will return alive,” Rezaei wrote, according to an English translation provided by X.
Kharg Island sits off Iran’s southern coast in the Persian Gulf and is the country’s most important crude oil export terminal. The island typically handles about 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports, making it central to Tehran’s revenue and a major strategic pressure point in any effort to limit Iran’s ability to finance government operations.
Its location also gives the island broader military importance. Kharg Island is near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy shipping routes, where a major share of global oil shipments passes each day.
Earlier in the conflict, reports said the Trump administration reviewed military options involving Kharg Island, including possible efforts to seize the island or strike infrastructure tied to Iran’s oil exports. Officials also reportedly considered operations involving other islands near the Strait of Hormuz as part of efforts to limit Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping.
Kharg Island was previously struck during fighting in April. The Trump administration said at the time that oil production and export facilities were not targeted.
The latest comments from Trump and Rezaei added to concerns that the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran was no longer holding and that the conflict could expand around Iran’s most valuable oil export infrastructure.
