The National Education Association adopted a new business item at its annual convention in Portland, Oregon, calling for President Donald Trump to be impeached, convicted and removed from office before the November 2026 midterm elections.

The measure also calls for a National March on Washington, D.C., to push for Trump’s removal, with projected additional costs of $5,236,193 in union dues, according to internal documents shared by school choice advocate Corey A. DeAngelis in an X post.

The proposal, identified as New Business Item 10, directs the nation’s largest teachers’ union to publicly support Trump’s removal from the presidency and to seek participation from other unions and progressive organizations.

“The National Education Association (NEA) will call for the impeachment, conviction, and removal of Donald Trump from the US Presidency. We the NEA will call for a National March on Washington D.C. to remove Trump before the November 2026 midterm elections and call on unions and other progressive organizations to join us in taking action to protect democracy and defend public education,” the item states.

The rationale section claims Trump’s party is expected to lose the midterm elections and alleges that he could respond by seeking to overturn the results.

“Trump’s party is expected to lose these midterms badly and attempt to call out his MAGA mob for another coup attempt like January 6th to overturn these results and prevent paralysis of his authoritarian agenda by Congress and certain states,” the rationale states.

The document says the proposal would require new funding beyond the union’s current staffing and budget plan.

“This item cannot be accomplished with current staff and resources under the proposed 2026-2027 Strategic Plan and Budget. It would cost an additional $5,236,193,” the cost section states.

The anti-Trump measure was not the only political item advanced by the NEA at the convention.

The union also approved a measure directing its president to send a letter to the Congressional Black Caucus introducing NEA Resolution I-62, titled “Educational Reparations.” The letter is intended to discuss what the union describes as the “enormous impact” the proposal would have on Black Americans.

The measures place the NEA directly into national political disputes ahead of the 2026 midterms, with the union calling for coordinated action against Trump while also advancing a separate reparations-related education proposal.
