U.S. President Donald Trump used a high-profile Independence Day eve address at Mount Rushmore to deliver a patriotic message centered on the nation’s founding principles while warning what he described as a growing communist influence within the United States.

Speaking beneath the towering monument honoring four former American presidents, Trump urged Americans to remain committed to the ideals established by the country’s founders 250 years ago and called for national unity around what he characterized as traditional American values.
The speech, delivered at the iconic South Dakota landmark, came as celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence gathered momentum across the country. With the granite faces of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln overlooking the ceremony, Trump described the monument as a lasting symbol of courage, leadership, and the enduring strength of the United States.
Addressing supporters gathered at the memorial, Trump said Americans should recommit themselves to preserving the freedoms envisioned by the nation’s founders. He praised the four presidents honored at Mount Rushmore, calling them extraordinary leaders whose vision helped shape the country’s history.
Standing before the monument, Trump said the United States must continue striving to be a nation that is bold, strong, and united. He acknowledged that maintaining those ideals is a significant challenge but expressed confidence that the country could continue building on the legacy left by previous generations of American leaders.
A major focus of the president’s remarks was his warning about what he described as the growing influence of communist ideology in American politics. Trump argued that the nation faces a renewed ideological challenge from individuals and political movements that, in his view, promote ideas fundamentally opposed to the principles upon which the United States was founded.
He claimed that the threat extends beyond political organizations and includes some recent immigrants whom he accused of embracing beliefs that conflict with America’s democratic traditions and economic system. Trump vowed that his administration would resist those influences and preserve what he called the nation’s unique way of life.
The president’s speech continued a series of recent public statements in which he has criticized the growing visibility of democratic socialist candidates within the Democratic Party. Over the past week, Trump has repeatedly pointed to recent election victories by progressive candidates as evidence of what he believes is a broader ideological shift in American politics.
During the address, Trump linked his criticism of communism with his longstanding emphasis on immigration policy. He argued that individuals who reject American values should not remain in the country and said the United States must continue enforcing immigration laws while protecting national interests.
Trump declared that Americans would defeat what he described as communist ideology and ensure that the United States remains committed to its democratic system. He also encouraged supporters to remain politically engaged ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, arguing that Republican electoral success would be essential to advancing his administration’s agenda.
The president framed the approaching congressional elections as a critical moment for the country, urging supporters to remain active and vote in large numbers. He suggested that maintaining Republican control in Congress would help preserve policies he believes strengthen the nation’s economy, security, and constitutional freedoms.
His remarks came at a time when political attention has increasingly focused on several recent Democratic primary elections in which a number of progressive candidates secured victories in closely watched contests. Among those winners were several candidates who openly identify as democratic socialists, adding new momentum to the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.
Recent primary victories by progressive candidates in New York City and Colorado have attracted significant national attention, while similar candidates have also achieved electoral success in states including Kentucky, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Those results have intensified debate within both major political parties over the direction of future policy and campaign strategies heading into the November elections.
The president has repeatedly cited those election outcomes as evidence that the Democratic Party is moving further to the left, while Democratic leaders have offered differing views on the significance of the primary results and the broader direction of the party.
Trump’s appearance at Mount Rushmore also took place against the backdrop of ongoing economic concerns. Many Americans continue to face elevated living costs, including higher prices for gasoline and other everyday expenses following the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Economic issues are expected to remain a central focus for both political parties as campaigning intensifies ahead of the midterm elections.
Republican lawmakers have increasingly highlighted recent progressive victories as they seek to energize voters and present a sharp contrast between their policy platform and that of Democratic candidates.
Following the Mount Rushmore event, Trump was scheduled to continue the Independence Day celebrations with another major public appearance in Washington, where he is expected to address thousands gathered on the National Mall before the annual Fourth of July fireworks display.
The national celebrations have been taking place amid an intense heat wave affecting large portions of the United States, forcing some communities to modify or reschedule outdoor Independence Day events because of unusually high temperatures. In contrast, conditions at Mount Rushmore were considerably cooler, with temperatures around 65 degrees Fahrenheit, providing comfortable weather for the outdoor ceremony.
The address combined patriotic themes with campaign messaging as Trump sought to rally supporters during one of the nation’s most symbolic holidays, emphasizing American history, national identity, and the political issues that are expected to dominate public debate in the months leading up to the congressional elections.
