President Donald Trump said Friday that he signed pardons for six people who he said were prosecuted under the Biden administration and were either imprisoned or facing prison for what he described as “fixing their car.”
Trump announced the pardons in a Truth Social post, saying the cases reflected what he called the “Weaponization and Stupidity” of the previous administration.
“It is my Great Honor to have just signed Pardons for six people who were persecuted by the Biden Administration, and were in, or being sent to, prison, for ‘fixing their car.’ While I know this sounds ridiculous, it is nevertheless a fact, and part of the Weaponization and Stupidity that our Country had to endure during four long years of Sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump said.
Trump did not identify the six people who received pardons and did not provide additional details about the cases in his post.
CBS News reported that Trump had been expected to pardon people convicted of emissions and Clean Air Act-related violations.
The announcement follows Trump’s earlier pardon of a Wyoming mechanic who served seven months in prison after violating federal emissions laws by disabling air pollution-control equipment on diesel engines.
The latest pardons add to Trump’s criticism of Biden-era prosecutions and federal enforcement actions. Based on the information provided, no further details were available about the identities of the six recipients, the specific charges in their cases or the length of any sentences they received.
