President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Republicans will hold their first midterm convention this September in Dallas, calling the two-day gathering a historic event intended to showcase his administration’s record and build momentum before the 2026 elections.
Trump said in a Truth Social post that the convention will be held Sept. 9-10 in Dallas, a city he described as one of his favorite places.
“For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION,” Trump wrote. “It will be in Dallas, Texas — One of my favorite places in the World. It will be fantastic! It has never been done before, and will be a truly Historic Event.”
The announcement comes as Republicans prepare to defend their congressional majorities in the 2026 midterm elections. The party that holds the White House has often faced difficult midterm cycles, making turnout, enthusiasm and national messaging central concerns for GOP leaders.
Trump said the convention will focus on what he called the “Great American Comeback” and highlight Americans who have benefited from his administration’s agenda.
“We are going to celebrate the GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK, and the incredible successes of the American People who transformed our Country through the America First Agenda,” Trump wrote.
The president listed several policies he said the party will promote at the event, including no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, stronger border security, lower costs, expanded domestic energy production and job creation.
Trump also pointed to falling oil prices and his administration’s approach to Iran.
“Oil Prices are dropping sharply, even as we Denuclearize Iran,” Trump wrote.
The Dallas event is expected to include what Trump described as “hardworking Americans, our Great Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators,” along with entertainment and “a RALLY like none other.”
Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters said the gathering will give the party a platform to rally behind Trump and his policy agenda before voters head into the midterm campaign season.
“This historic Midterm Convention will highlight President Trump’s many accomplishments and unwavering commitment to restoring America,” Gruters said in a statement. “This convention will be a Trumpapalooza, where we will showcase the America First agenda, which has delivered the largest tax cut in history and made communities safer. President Trump will unite Republicans around our shared vision, build momentum, and deliver an incredible convention for our Party.”
Trump also connected the convention to the nation’s approaching 250th anniversary, framing the Dallas gathering as part of a broader message about America’s future.
“America’s 250th Birthday is approaching, and together, we are building the foundation for the NEXT 250 YEARS of American Greatness,” Trump wrote. “Dallas will take center stage on September 9th and 10th as we celebrate our Nation, our achievements, and our bright future. THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN!”
The convention marks a new step in Republican midterm strategy, giving the party a national event outside the traditional presidential convention cycle to promote its message, energize supporters and reinforce Trump’s role at the center of the GOP heading into 2026.
