Russian guided bombs struck a residential building in Kharkiv, while additional attacks hit Sumy and both Moscow and Kyiv reported overnight drone interceptions.

A Russian guided bomb attack on an apartment building in Ukraine’s northeastern city of Kharkiv killed at least one person and injured nine others, including a 6-year-old child, Ukrainian officials said Saturday.
The strike hit a low-rise residential block in Kharkiv’s Kholodnohirskiy district during the early morning hours, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov. Hours after the attack, rescuers recovered a body from the rubble, Terekhov said on Telegram.
Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv regional administration, said nine people were injured in the attack. Five of them were hospitalized.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has faced repeated Russian missile, drone and guided bomb attacks throughout the war because of its proximity to the Russian border.
Russian forces also struck elsewhere in the Kharkiv region. Syniehubov said a Russian drone hit a civilian vehicle Friday evening, killing a man and injuring the woman who was driving.
Later Saturday, Russian guided bombs struck the outskirts of Sumy, a northern Ukrainian city that has also faced frequent cross-border attacks. Oleh Hryhorov, head of the local administration, said a civilian man was killed and at least 20 private homes were damaged.
Moscow did not immediately comment on the reported strikes in Kharkiv or Sumy.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 99 drones overnight and that Ukrainian defenses shot down 92 of them. Seven drones struck targets in three locations, the air force said.
The latest attacks came as both sides continued long-range drone operations against military and infrastructure targets.
In Russia, officials said air defenses repelled a Ukrainian drone attack on an oil refinery in Tyumen in Western Siberia. Gov. Alexander Moor said the refinery was not damaged and that staff had been evacuated.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian oil facilities in an effort to reduce Moscow’s war revenue and increase pressure inside Russia. Some Russian regions have reported fuel shortages following previous attacks.
On Thursday, Ukraine carried out one of its largest drone attacks since Russia’s full-scale invasion began more than four years ago, striking a major Moscow oil refinery for the second time in a week. The attack sent large plumes of black smoke over the Russian capital and disrupted hundreds of flights.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said Saturday that its forces shot down 177 Ukrainian drones overnight. The ministry did not say how many drones reached their targets.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said two drones were shot down as they approached the capital.
The latest strikes showed the continued intensity of the war’s aerial campaign, with Russian forces attacking Ukrainian cities and civilian areas while Ukraine continues targeting Russian energy infrastructure tied to Moscow’s war effort.
