President Donald Trump warned Republican senators that keeping the legislative filibuster could block election-related legislation and leave the party unable to stop future Democratic priorities.

President Donald Trump urged Senate Republicans on Thursday to eliminate the legislative filibuster, warning that failure to do so could prevent passage of the SAVE America Act and allow Democrats to reshape federal power if they return to office.

In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump argued that Republicans should act now because Democrats would quickly end the filibuster themselves if they regained control.

“Anybody who doesn’t want to Terminate the Filibuster is a FOOL, a very stupid one, at that! The Dumocrats will end it within minutes of taking office, and then rapidly proceed to destroy our Country, adding 2 Radical Left States, 4 Dumocrat Senators, many Congressmen/women, their dream of 21 Supreme Court Justices (Not just 13, an unlucky number!), an impossible to beat number of Electoral College Votes (and that’s the Ballgame!), ‘Popular’ Vote Landslides, and so much else,” Trump wrote.

The president said the stakes extend beyond party politics, arguing that Senate Republicans must move immediately to approve the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, also known as the SAVE America Act.

“The Republican Party will never win another Election. I will, sadly, be the last Republican President. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and the Republican Senate, must not let this ‘carnage’ happen. They will go down on the wrong side of History, as will all Republicans who just stood by and watched. The Republican Party isn’t at stake, our Country is. TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, AND IMMEDIATELY APPROVE THE SAVE AMERICA ACT. GOD BLESS THE U.S.A. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

Trump’s statement followed comments from Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., who said Tuesday that the filibuster stands in the way of passing the SAVE America Act.

“The only way you can get … this done is to nuke the legislative filibuster, and that is not something that we have anywhere close to the votes to do,” Thune told Fox News’s “Special Report.”

The filibuster generally requires most legislation to clear a 60-vote threshold in the Senate, rather than a simple majority. Trump’s message called on Republicans to abandon that rule for legislative business, saying the party risks losing the ability to pass major priorities if it waits.

The SAVE America Act has become a central point in the debate, with Trump framing its approval as urgent for the country’s political future.

Thune’s remarks made clear that even if Republican leaders support the legislation, they do not currently have enough votes within their own conference to eliminate the legislative filibuster.

Trump’s post placed new pressure on Senate Republicans, warning that those who refuse to act will be judged harshly for allowing Democrats to gain future institutional advantages.
