Belgian and French authorities have dismantled a well‑organised international drug trafficking network operating across multiple European countries, following a coordinated investigation supported by Eurojust.
According to officials, investigators in both countries had been pursuing parallel cases when links emerged between the suspects. A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was established at Eurojust, enabling prosecutors and police to merge intelligence, map the network’s structure and plan a unified operational response.
Cross‑Border Criminal Structure Exposed
The investigation uncovered a transnational criminal group with several key members based in Brussels. The network allegedly prepared vehicles fitted with hidden compartments to transport large quantities of drugs from Belgium through France, with final distribution routes extending into Spain and Italy.
Eurojust facilitated multiple coordination meetings at its headquarters in The Hague, allowing investigators to “connect the dots” between the Belgian and French cases and synchronise the eventual takedown.
Action Day: 11 Suspects Detained
A major action day on 9 June 2026 resulted in:
– 11 suspects arrested
– €60,000 in cash seized
– Three vehicles confiscated
– Luxury items, dozens of mobile phones, computers and documents seized
During searches in Belgium, investigators also discovered counterfeit identity documents and stolen papers, prompting the opening of a separate criminal case.
Authorities believe several additional suspects may have fled Belgium before the coordinated raids.
Participating Authorities
Belgium:
– Investigating Judge, French‑speaking Court of First Instance, Brussels
– Public Prosecution Office Brussels
– Federal Judicial Police Brussels
France:
– Interregional Specialised Jurisdiction of Nancy (JIRS)
– Special Unit Against Organised Crime, National Police Metz (DCOS)
Officials say the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of international judicial cooperation in dismantling cross‑border organised crime networks.
