Sen. Chris Murphy’s political committee has funded a prominent progressive organization that has helped coordinate anti-ICE protests and other mass demonstrations against the Trump administration, according to a Just the News report.
Murphy, D-Conn., created the American Mobilization Project as part of his effort to build organized resistance to President Donald Trump’s second-term agenda. The PAC gave $100,000 last year to Indivisible, a national progressive organization founded after Trump’s 2016 election and now active in protests involving immigration enforcement, anti-Trump rallies and other left-wing causes, according to Federal Election Commission records.
The Connecticut Democrat has become one of the party’s most aggressive voices against Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He has also embraced resistance-style messaging that has become common among Democratic activists, according to a Western Journal report.
Murphy’s PAC, now branded American Mobilization, describes its mission as supporting broad public action against Trump’s agenda. Indivisible, one of the PAC’s major recipients, says it “drives coordinated campaigns, powering the grassroots Indivisible movement to defeat the rightwing takeover of American government” and claims that “an alliance of white nationalists and the ultra-rich have been actively working to further undermine democracy,” according to its website.
Indivisible has been identified as part of a wider network of left-wing groups involved in protests against the Trump administration. The organization has been linked to the No Kings rallies, anti-ICE demonstrations and opposition to the U.S. military operation to capture Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro earlier this year, according to Just the News.
Some groups in the same protest network have drawn congressional scrutiny over alleged foreign ties. The People’s Forum, funded by self-described Marxist Neville Roy Singham, has faced questions from lawmakers over reported connections involving China and Cuba, along with concerns about possible nonprofit-law violations. Just the News previously reported on a subpoena targeting Singham.
Murphy’s PAC has also partnered with organizations that provide legal services to illegal immigrants in Texas and Minnesota. Both states have seen anti-ICE demonstrations and alleged left-wing anarchist activity targeting immigration facilities, including activity tied to a Texas terrorism trial.
American Mobilization did not respond to a request for comment from Just the News.
Murphy has said the purpose of his PAC is to promote “mass mobilization” against Trump, whom he has accused of threatening democracy.
“We may not have another election, at least a free and fair election, if we don’t stop this slide away from free speech and democracy quickly,” Murphy said. “And what we know from history is that the only way to stop a, you know, would-be tyrant from cratering, from destroying a democracy is mass mobilization.”
Murphy, first elected to the Senate in 2012, previously built a reputation as a Democrat willing to negotiate bipartisan agreements, including on guns and immigration. Since Trump returned to office, however, Murphy has publicly acknowledged a sharp turn toward more combative messaging.
“This may look a little schizophrenic, having gone from spending two years writing big bipartisan deals on guns or on immigration to now being out front in trying to fight for the survival of the democracy and using really tough language about my Republican colleagues,” Murphy told NBC News in March 2025.
“I mean, every Democrat could just continue to run in the same direction they’ve been running for the last 10 years,” he said. “Or you could realize that this moment is different, that this threat is unique—and to me, you know, we don’t have another year to fight this attempt to destroy democracy. Our democracy might be gone in six months.”
Murphy has promoted that message through social media and paid advertising, including on Instagram and Facebook. His PAC has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in 2025, with recipients including Democratic candidates, immigrant rights groups and environmental organizations, according to FEC records.
Indivisible stands out as one of the largest recipients of American Mobilization funding. In December 2025, Murphy’s PAC gave Indivisible $100,000 through two payments, one from its political account and one from its non-contribution account, federal records show.
Murphy’s own website says the money was intended to help Indivisible “ramp up for their next chapter of work and build up durable mass mobilization capacity across the country,” including by “training staff and volunteers, paying for materials, recruiting volunteers, acquiring permits, and more.”
Indivisible was the primary organizer of the 2025 No Kings protests, according to Capital Research Center. The NoKings.org website identifies Indivisible as a founding coalition partner.
The group has also promoted the “Halt the ICE Terror Machine” campaign, which focused heavily on opposing immigration enforcement actions in Minnesota last year. Confrontations between protesters and immigration officers there resulted in two shootings, and the Trump administration later scaled back its operations in response to the unrest.
Indivisible has also been involved in ongoing anti-ICE demonstrations in Newark, New Jersey, near Delaney Hall, an ICE detention facility. The group’s New York chapter partnered with several organizations for those protests, including anti-Israel, Marxist and Democratic groups such as Palestine Solidarity Working Group, Al-Awda and 50501.
A Fox News Digital investigation found that the Newark protests were not spontaneous, but the result of years of planning by a network of groups seeking to use a local controversy to pressure the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations.
Fox News Digital reported that the operation showed signs of advanced preparation, including tents stocked with respirators, goggles, protective pads and decontamination supplies.
Just the News has also reported that other groups in the broader protest network, including the Party for Socialism and Liberation, BreakThrough News and the People’s Forum, were involved in promoting or organizing anti-ICE protests and boycotts in Minnesota.
Murphy’s American Mobilization Project marks a major shift in the senator’s political posture. Once known as a bipartisan dealmaker, Murphy is now using his PAC to support organizations building a nationwide protest infrastructure against Trump’s immigration agenda and broader second-term policies.
