CBS News has fired longtime “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley after a dispute with the program’s new executive producer, Nick Bilton, according to a report.

The departure is the latest major personnel change at the network since Bari Weiss took over CBS News following a buyout. Weiss, who founded the Free Press after leaving The New York Times, has faced internal dissent since assuming leadership, with disagreements over her decisions repeatedly spilling into the press.

Pelley had been among those critical of Weiss’ changes, including the selection of Bilton to lead “60 Minutes,” Politico reported. Bilton fired Pelley this week after the correspondent reportedly objected to personnel moves and broader changes to the long-running newsmagazine.

In a termination letter obtained by Politico, Bilton accused Pelley of “hijacking” a meeting he held with staff to challenge his qualifications. Bilton also wrote that Pelley treated him with “remarkable incvility and contempt.”

Bilton later told staff he had tried to resolve the matter with Pelley amicably, but said the correspondent declined.

The firing adds to the turmoil surrounding CBS News as Weiss reshapes the network’s direction and leadership structure. It also places one of the network’s most recognizable correspondents at the center of a broader internal struggle over the future of “60 Minutes,” one of CBS’ flagship programs.
