Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters gave her first interview after being released from a Colorado prison Monday, saying she credited God for helping her through the ordeal and calling her release “a miracle.”

Peters, who was imprisoned in 2022 under the Biden administration after being accused of trying to help President Donald Trump “overturn the election,” appeared on Steve Bannon’s War Room shortly after her release.

“It’s been quite the ordeal, but I really want to thank God for His faithfulness and for getting me through it,” Peters said in the interview shared on X. “It’s a miracle.”

Her release was followed by a renewed push for scrutiny of how her case was handled. Attorney Mike Davis said Monday that federal authorities should examine whether Peters’ civil rights were violated during the prosecution and punishment process.

“I write to urge an investigation of potential federal civil-rights violations of Tina Peters,” Davis said.

Davis alleged that Peters was punished because of her views on election integrity.

“The evidence is clear: Colorado government officials conspired to severely, unconstitutionally, and criminally punish Tina Peters because of her First Amendment-protected views on election integrity,” he said.

The latest developments were also highlighted by journalist Eric Daugherty in a separate post shared on X.

Peters’ release marks a new stage in a case that drew national attention from election-integrity advocates and critics of the prosecution. Davis’ call for an investigation now places the focus on whether federal civil rights issues were involved in the actions taken against the former county clerk.
