The Carolina Hurricanes lost the first game of the series against the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Finals. Well, things have changed since that Game 1. Carolina once again dominated in Game 4 on the road against Montreal and won by a final score of 4-0. With the win for the Hurricanes, they are one win away from their first trip back to the Stanley Cup Finals since winning it all in 2006 against the Edmonton Oilers.
Carolina head coach Rod Brind’Amour was a player on that 2006 team and now he can coach this team to the final 20 years later. Montreal is a very talented team, but they are clearly outmatched in this series against the Hurricanes. It will be interesting to see if the Hurricanes are going to win in Game 5 or not. Montreal is 2-0 in elimination games this postseason and they were both in Game 7 against the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Buffalo Sabres.
Carolina Hurricanes 11-1 Record This Postseason
This postseason, the Hurricanes have an 11-1 record. They swept the Philadelphia Flyers and the Ottawa Senators before facing Montreal. Carolina has been tremendous with the forecheck and pressuring other teams. Frederik Andersen has also been tremendous this postseason. His only bad game was in Game 1 of this series against the Canadiens. The defense has no doubt helped him out in a big way this postseason here. Carolina is suffocating everywhere.
As for Montreal, Jakub Dobes is doing everything he can in his power to keep his team in games. The problem is that Montreal can’t generate shots. They have generated fewer than 20 shots over the last few games. If they do this once again in Game 5, they will lose once again. If the Canadiens do not come back, then the drought of winning a Stanley Cup will continue and it has not happened since the 1993 NHL season.
