U.S. President Donald Trump said on May 22 that he likely will not attend the upcoming wedding of his eldest son, citing government responsibilities and ongoing international developments.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had hoped to attend the ceremony involving Donald Trump Jr. and his fiancée, Bettina Anderson, but indicated that current demands on his schedule could prevent him from doing so.

“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump family, his soon-to-be wife Bettina, circumstances pertaining to government and my love for the United States of America do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote.

He added that remaining in Washington and at the White House was important during what he described as a significant period.

Donald Trump Jr., 48, announced his engagement to Anderson, 39, in late 2025. At the time, Anderson described herself as fortunate to be marrying “the love of my life,” while Trump publicly offered his congratulations and wished the couple well.

Specific details regarding the wedding, including its location, have not been publicly confirmed.

According to the president’s official schedule, he is expected to spend the weekend between Washington and Bedminster.

When asked by reporters about the wedding plans, Trump said his son had expressed a desire for him to attend but acknowledged the timing was difficult.

“It’s going to be just a small little private affair, and I’m going to try and make it,” Trump said. He added that ongoing issues involving Iran and other responsibilities made the decision challenging.

The president also joked that media criticism would follow regardless of whether he attended or missed the event.

Trump noted that he has known Anderson for many years and said he hoped the couple would have a successful and happy marriage.

Donald Trump Jr. has not publicly commented on his father’s latest remarks.

Following that marriage, Trump Jr. became engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Guilfoyle currently serves as the U.S. ambassador to Greece as part of the Trump administration.
