(SPEEDWAY, IN.) – In the final tune up before the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, Josef Newgarden found himself at the top of the speed charts.
Two-time “500” winner Newgarden in the No. 2 Shell Fuel Rewards Chevrolet for Team Penske paced the field at 228.342 MPH, 8 tenths of a MPH faster than the rest of the field.

“It feels OK, feels all right,” two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Newgarden said of his car. “But today is Friday. We’ve got to be good on Sunday.
“I’m just ready to get to Sunday. Sunday is what’s going to matter with the Shell car. Team Chevy has done a great job for us this month, so I’m excited to go racing.”
Following Newgarden on the speed chart was Christain Rasmussen in the No. 21 Splenda Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter racing checking in at 227.474 MPH, he will roll off 15th on Sunday. Posting the 3rd quickest speed on Carb Day was David Malukas, whose been fast all month had a quick lap at 226.565 MPH and he will be starting on the front row on Sunday.
Rounding out the top 5 from today’s final practice was Noblesville native Conor Daly in the No. 23 Kingspan / Skyline Chili Chevrolet for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing at 226.341 MPH, he will start 8th on Sunday and former 2 time Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato in the No.75 Amada Honda in a one off with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing finished 5th quick at 226.244 MPH and he will start 12th once the green flag drops on Sunday.
