Conservative commentator Candace Owens offered a direct apology to Hunter Biden during a lengthy podcast interview released Thursday, acknowledging that years of public criticism over his crack cocaine addiction failed to account for his efforts to remain sober and the impact the controversy had on his family.

The nearly two-hour conversation marked one of Hunter Biden’s most extensive public interviews in recent years and covered subjects ranging from addiction and politics to Jeffrey Epstein, Gaza, the 2024 presidential race, and his relationship with former President Joe Biden.
During the discussion, Hunter Biden addressed the years of public ridicule surrounding his addiction struggles and directly confronted Owens over her past remarks.
“I’ve heard you call me a crackhead many times, and the truth of it is I was a crackhead,” Hunter Biden said.
Biden said his addiction worsened after the 2015 death of his brother, Beau Biden, who died from cancer. He also described the release of materials from his laptop — including photographs documenting periods of drug abuse — as occurring while he was attempting to rebuild his life and maintain sobriety.
“Something broke in me in a good way, which was that I no longer have any fear,” Biden said. “I don’t blame people who are not realizing that I have worked my effing a** off. I mean, in this environment, the best thing I’ve ever done is stay clean and sober through all of that.”
Owens responded by apologizing for how the scandal surrounding Biden’s laptop had repeatedly been used publicly against him.
“I feel, actually, terrible, realizing that you were finally clean and then it’s just this humiliation ritual over and over again of people putting everything out there and not realizing that,” Owens said. “Also, your kids are facing that consequence as well.”
Hunter Biden became emotional during the exchange and told Owens the apology “means the world.”
Owens also told Biden she would not attempt to pressure him into criticizing his father during the interview.
“I have already made the pledge, right when I got on the phone with you, that obviously I’m not going to make you say anything bad about your father because that would just be absolutely demonic,” Owens said. “Everyone knows my opinions, my political perspectives. They’re already out there. He is your dad.”
Biden replied, “I appreciate it because there’s no way I possibly could.”
The interview also revisited longstanding Republican allegations regarding Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings and whether former President Joe Biden financially benefited from those relationships.
Hunter Biden denied those claims.
“Everybody has all this information,” Biden said. “There’s not a single [email or text] in which you’d find that in any way supports the really serious accusations of my father enriching himself somehow, none of it.”
The conversation additionally touched on internal Democratic Party tensions surrounding Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.
“Do you think that I’m going to defend the D.C. elite of the left?” Hunter Biden said. “They crushed my dad … They did everything they could to push him out.”
“You know why?” he continued. “Because he was never part of that club.”
The interview reflects Owens’ increasingly independent political positioning in recent years, during which she has criticized both Democrats and portions of the conservative establishment, including at times President Donald Trump and Republican leadership.
