The Republican National Committee has launched an aggressive nationwide legal campaign targeting election laws and voting procedures ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, with party leadership announcing more than 130 lawsuits filed across 32 states.
RNC Chairman Joe Gruters outlined the strategy during a televised interview, saying Republicans are significantly expanding their election litigation and oversight operations as President Donald Trump pushes for a larger election-monitoring infrastructure than the one deployed during the 2024 cycle.
Gruters stated that the effort is designed to challenge what Republicans describe as ongoing attempts by Democrats to weaken election safeguards and alter voting systems through litigation, redistricting efforts, and immigration-related policies.
“The president, when he asked me to take this position, said, ‘We’ve got to make sure our elections are safe and secure. We have to continue to build on the success that Lara Trump and Michael Whatley built in the 2024 cycle,’” Gruters said during the interview.
He added, “The Democrats are trying to cheat every single day. That’s why we have 130 lawsuits. We’re bringing the hammer wherever we can — in 32 states where we have lawsuits because the Democrats are trying to cheat every single day.”
Gruters also tied the legal initiative to broader Republican concerns involving border security and voter eligibility.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s redistricting,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if—what they’ve done is allowed tens of millions of illegals to come across our border, and they’re trying to figure out ways to get them to vote.”
The RNC chairman said the party has already hired election-focused staff members in 17 states and plans to continue expanding its legal and operational footprint leading into the midterms.
“That’s why we’re always focused on making sure we have integrity in the system, so that we can have confidence in our democracy,” Gruters said. “And we’re putting people in place. We’ve already hired staff in 17 states, and we’re going to continue our strong litigation effort to make sure we beat back these Democrats and their efforts, which have been ongoing for decades, to try to steal elections.”
The announcement follows recent statements from President Donald Trump indicating that Republicans intend to build a significantly larger “Election Integrity Army” than the one utilized during the 2024 presidential campaign. Trump and other Republican leaders have emphasized expanded legal operations, poll-watching initiatives, ballot monitoring, and challenges to election procedures in key battleground states.
Republican officials have increasingly focused on election litigation in recent years, particularly regarding mail-in voting procedures, voter registration rules, ballot verification standards, redistricting disputes, and noncitizen voting concerns.
Democrats and voting rights organizations have disputed Republican allegations regarding widespread election fraud and have argued that many GOP-backed legal challenges are designed to restrict ballot access.
Video of Gruters’ interview circulated widely on X following the announcement as Republicans continued highlighting their legal strategy and organizational preparations ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
