The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is looking into blockchain-enabled finance technology as part of wider initiatives for the tokenization of various sectors of the economy. This news has attracted interest following an interview between crypto news platform Coin Bureau and Faisal Monai, who heads up droppRWA.
According to the report posted to X, Monai revealed that Saudi Arabia intends to tokenize multiple sectors of its trillion-dollar economy, starting with the real estate sector. He further added that droppRWA currently has $12.5 billion worth of mandates, and the first stablecoin-enabled property settlement system would be operational by late 2026.
Saudi Arabia Targets Real Estate Tokenization
Blockchain seems to be the first place where Saudi Arabia is set to start its activities. Tokenization makes it possible to create digital representations of physical assets, such as real estate, in blockchain ecosystems. Such transactions have been made by market participants in order to make processes easier.
According to Coin Bureau, the country is planning to tokenize parts of its economy using blockchain solutions. This statement matches global trends toward tokenizing real-world assets, a phenomenon which has been seen as an increasing share of the digital asset market.
Through the Vision 2030 initiative, Saudi Arabia has made investments in technology and digital transformation. Simultaneously, massive projects that have been executed in Riyadh and other places have made people conscious of financial alternatives linked to infrastructure development.
Stablecoin Settlement Plans Emerge
According to Monai, stablecoin-supported real estate settlements can be launched even before 2026 ends. Stablecoins refer to cryptocurrencies whose value remains constant and is often backed by fiat currencies like the United States dollar.
Several firms in the crypto industry have marketed stablecoins for quicker settlements and international transactions. Their application in real estate settlements may eliminate delays associated with conventional banking methods.
The article did not indicate which stablecoins or blockchains would facilitate the proposed settlement framework. Further regulatory information related to the program was also vague.
droppRWA Claims $12.5 Billion in Mandates
The X post also made mention of the $12.5 billion worth of mandates associated with tokenization initiatives at droppRWA. In finance, the term “mandates” is used in relation to approved projects, deals, or investments.
No details have yet been provided regarding this number, as well as any details on how much money had been committed to the projects thus far.
Nevertheless, the post is indicative of increasing activity relating to the tokenization of real-world assets in the Middle East. A number of companies based there are still exploring potential applications for blockchain technology in finance and investments.
Vision for a Tokenized Financial System
Monai also claimed that Saudi Arabia could run a sovereign tokenized financial system by 2030. It means that Saudi Arabia is aiming towards having a digital finance strategy in the future but not for implementation on an immediate basis.
Over the last few years, governments around the world and financial organizations have started researching blockchain technology in order to understand how it works.
So far, Saudi Arabia has not officially declared that there will be a tokenized financial system in the country at a national level. Nevertheless, debates regarding the implementation of blockchain technology are becoming increasingly prevalent.
